Jacob's Cure

Jacob's Cure donates the majority of its funding to research programs worldwide that solely aim to treat or cure children dying of Canavan disease today.

Jacob's Cure is a non-profit organization founded by Jordana Holovach to save her son, Jacob, who was diagnosed with Canavan Disease, a rare genetic neurological disorder, at six months old. Children with Canavan Disease become trapped in their bodies, develop seizures, lose their ability to see and swallow, and die in the first decade of life. The research funded by Jacob's Cure has slowed or halted the progression of the disease in most of the children who received gene therapy and have begun the recommended pharmacological treatments. While there is currently no cure for Canavan Disease, Jacob's Cure is funding a stem cell clinical trial that aims to further treat and ultimately cure Canavan disease. This stem cell research may very well revolutionize the manner in which "white matter" neurological diseases, such as Parkinson's, MS and ALS, are treated and will be a model for their cure.

The Jacob's Cure DREAM BIG Gala Honoring Donny Deutsch

Dear Friends,

Please join us at Cipriani Wall Street on Wednesday, May 2nd to DREAM BIG at the 2nd Jacob's Cure Gala honoring Donny Deutsch.

Jacob's Cure was founded 11 years ago by Jordana Holovach whose son, Jacob, was diagnosed with Canavan disease at 6 months of age. Upon diagnosis, Jordana was told her son would never sit, crawl, walk or say a single word. He would remain trapped in his body, become increasingly lost to the world, develop seizures, lose his eyesight and his ability to swallow, and die by the age of 10. Even more devastating was when she was told there was no known cure and nothing in the way of research. Jacob's Cure became her mission with the sole purpose of funding research that aimed to treat and ultimately cure the children dying of Canavan today.

Donny was introduced to Canavan disease in 2006 when the young daughter of a close friend became a volunteer for Jacob's Cure. She asked him to host a family bowling event in New York City to benefit the organization. Anyone who knows Donny surely knows he is a man with BIG ideas, and most importantly, a man with a BIG heart, so it was no surprise when, upon learning about Jordana, Jacob, and the efforts of Jacob's Cure, he said yes, even though so many before him with a "name" to lend had said no. In his DREAM BIG way, Donny raised the energy of that event and generated new exposure for Jacob's Cure, and upon meeting Jordana and Jacob, he pledged his commitment towards their fight.

In a world where broken promises are many, Donny never once waivered on his. For the last 6 years, Donny continued to say "yes" by hosting, representing and attending Jacob's Cure events that have jointly raised $3 million dollars and landed Jacob's Cure and its mission in high profile press that has been seen by millions of people. In short, Donny helped put the rare disease nobody knew or cared about on the map... front and center.

By simply saying yes, Donny has assisted Jacob's Cure in funding cutting edge research in gene therapy and pharmaceutical approaches that has slowed and in some cases halted the progression of Canavan, while also leading the way to treatments in more commonly known disorders such as Parkinson's, ALS and Multiple Sclerosis. Currently, Jacob's Cure is in the final stages of funding a stem cell trial that aims to further treat and ultimately cure Canavan Disease. This next phase of treatment involves a Phase 1 Clinical Trial and will include as many as 20 Canavan children which is the FDA imposed limit for Phase I trials and a Phase II trial available to as many children as funding can support. This stem cell research may very well revolutionize the manner in which "white matter" neurological disease is treated, and will be a model for their cure.

For saying "yes" when he could have said "no", for saying "why not" when he could have said "why" and for always DREAMING BIG, we hope you will join us in this tribute by becoming a sponsor and honoring Donny in the BIGGEST way possible... by treating the Canavan children and ushering in their cure.

We thank you for your time and consideration and look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, May 2nd.

Sincerely,
